A Paradise Lost

A Paradise Lost

A PARADISE LOST is an animated/live-action documentary about a small, yellow bird that successfully sued the State of Hawai‘i to save its kind, but remains on the verge of extinction. Palila, an endangered finch found only in the Hawaiian Islands (the Extinction Capital of the World), sat at the plaintiff’s table in Palila v. Hawaiʻi (1979) a landmark case protecting endangered species. Today, a native Hawaiian conservationist strives to restore Palila’s habitat lost to climate change, cattle ranching and sheep grazing, while a local hunter laments the loss of hunting as a way of life.
